Hostage
AsVision.az interviews one of 3 Azerbaijani civilians Shahbaz Guliyev, who were taken hostage by Armenian Armed Forces on July 11, 2014 in the occupied Kalbajar region of the Azerbaijani Republic.

3 Azerbaijani civilians Hasan Hasanov, Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev were taken hostage by Armenian Armed Forces on July 11, 2014 in the occupied Kalbajar region of the Azerbaijani Republic.

Hasan Hasanov has already been severely tortured and killed. Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, who are still alive, face a true human drama in Armenian captivity.

Azvision.az reporters visited Shahbaz Guliyev’s family in order to be aware of the latest news of him and show them that they are not alone.

Shabaz Guliev’s daughter Elza says she is longing to see her father:

I feel happy only when I feel my father by my side (crying…) I wonder when he’ll be back. He is the loveliest father in the world. I love him. I want him come back. I miss him terribly. If he returns I will never let him go. I want to hug him closer and closer.

Brother of the hostage taken by the enemy says they nobody was aware of his decision going to Kelbejar.

“I heard from journalists. We pray for god for Shahbaz and Dilgam. They are our brothers. We are waiting for them.

It hurts, I can`t talk any more. Please turn off camera…My mother still knows nothing about the incident. We said nothing to her. She is 80 years old, how can I say that your son is in captivity. We said that Shahbaz is in Russia. We have a letter from him, rather than we are waiting for a video.

Shabaz’s wife Albina is also waiting for his husband to come.

It is very hard to read his letters. We want him to be with us. It is very hard for me to look at her eyes, to see how she prays god for her father every day. This is unbearable. Elsa is an only child in our family. She cries every day. We thank for the President for everything he has done for us and ask him for help. I wish I see him again.

In contradiction with Articles 27, 29 and 32 of Geneva Convention of 12 August 1949 on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, the Azerbaijani hostages have been severely tortured for more than three months. However, these Azerbaijanis have not committed any crime and have not violated any norm of the international law. The requirements of Articles 2, 3, 5, 6 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms have been grossly violated towards these people.

According to norms of the international law, every citizen has the right to the freedom of movement in her/his country.

Nonetheless, these Azerbaijanis have been taken hostage by Armenian Armed Forces within the borders of the Azerbaijan Republic recognised by all the world and the United Nations. Armenia and the separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh are planning to bring them to a fabricated “trial” on October 27. This would be the first ever fake trial to be held for visiting one’s home and graves of the relatives. It’s not occasional that on that very day a meeting between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was planned in Paris with the mediation of President of France Francois Hollande. Like Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, more than one million Azerbaijanis suffer from the unsettled Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Illegal imprisonment of Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev and severe tortures faced by them, as well as the trial shows, Armenian provocations aimed to undermine the negotiation process. But the position of Azerbaijan is obvious: Azerbaijani people want to live together in peace and security.
