There were also reports of a `strange smell` coming from the cabin. The pilot took the decision to return back to the Malaysian capital.
As is standard procedure with unscheduled diversions, the plane was forced to circle multiple times off the Malaysian coast to dump fuel.
This is so the plane is at the correct weight to perform a safe landing.
The emergency services were scrambled to the tarmac at Kuala Lumpur to meet the plane on landing at runway 32L.
The passengers were then safely escorted off the plane and into the terminal. The Airbus A388 was scheduled to land at 5.35am this morning in London.
One passenger took to Twitter to say that after take-off the `cabin smelt funky,` and confirmed the plane returned to Kuala Lumpur.
They described how there was `no panic, no alarm,` and that all `was calm.
