Aliyev assessed the signing of “The agreement on cooperation between the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran in continuing the construction and exploitation of Khudaferin and Maiden Tower hydroelectric power plants over the Araz River, and equal rights to water and energy resources along the plants” as a contribution to the Azerbaijan-Iran energy cooperation.
Robert Cekuta spoke about the US Secretary of State’s Special Envoy for International Energy Affairs Amos J. Hochstein’s visit to Azerbaijan to be paid as a part of the 2nd Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council meeting on February 29 and interested in the process of the project. The ambassador recommended discussing at the Advisory Council meeting the proposals which will support acceleration of the implementation of the project.
Aliyev said the works on the Southern Gas Corridor are carried out in accordance with the schedule and Azerbaijan fulfils its obligations on the project. The Shahdeniz 2 concept, which is one of the main elements of the Southern Gas Corridor, includes construction of two offshore platforms to be merged via bridge, 500 km-subsea pipelines to connect the wells with the terminal on the coast, modernization of ships carrying out construction in the sea, extension of Sangachal Terminal, drilling of 26 wells (8 already drilled). The works on SCPX are underway alongside the pipelines in Georgian territories. More than 20% of works on TANAP construction have already been completed. Works on TAP pipeline are planned to be commenced in March.
Aliyev also spoke about difficulties observed around the TAP and highly appreciated the US position in this issue. He noted that the 2nd Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council meeting will provide necessary support for realization of these projects timely and delivery of Azerbaijani gas to Europe.
