Latvia supports a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said the ambassador.
“Every war is easy to start, but it is extremely difficult to finish. Look at what is happening in Syria. How is it difficult to stop this war? Therefore, the [Nagorno-Karabakh conflict] should be resolved by peaceful means,” the diplomat added.
The European Union is one of the key players in the international arena, Maklakovs said, noting that the [EU] can give an impetus to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The ambassador also extended condolences over the 24th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy.
Political relations between Latvia and Azerbaijan stand at the highest level, according to the ambassador.
“However, economic ties between the two countries have not reached to a desired extent. We have vast opportunities to boost these ties. We can also cooperate in the fields of education, health and tourism,” he said.
