Energy cooperation issue must be free of any political format
The implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) project will further expand the efficient cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and other countries, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The president made the remarks at the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council in Baku Feb. 29.

The head of state said energy policy, vital for global security, is a priority issue on the agenda of international organizations.

“Azerbaijan is committed to all of its obligations. Our country is constantly improving principles of market economy. I have to stress one more issue: energy cooperation cannot be an issue of political demand and has to be free of any political format,” President Aliyev stressed.

Azerbaijan has established strong cooperation with the project participants which would enable the successful cooperation in other sectors of the economy, according to the president.

“Energy cooperation plays an important role in relations with the EU. It is important to avoid delays in the implementation of the [SGC]. All governments must join efforts to overcome the obstacles,” Aliyev added.

The head of state said the implementation of the TANAP project is an active phase, expressing confidence for the completion of the [TANAP] on time.

Calling the Southern Gas Corridor a historical project of the 21st century, President Aliyev expressed gratitude to the governments of countries contributing to the TANAP`s implementation.
