`Armenia once again shows disrespect to int
During the UN Human Rights Council meeting, Armenian foreign minister presented the occupation, aggression, terror and bloody ethnic cleansing against the other state as "self-determination" and talked about higher values, Azerbaijan
He noted that it is nothing but disrespect to the UN institutions and the international community.

In the days of the anniversary of the Khojaly genocide and the political terror in Yerevan (1 March 2008), Armenia’s foreign minister, speaking at a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council, without any feelings of shame talked about the prevention of genocide, human rights and the right of peoples to self-determination, and his words were full of lies and distortions, Hajiyev said.

Hajiyev reminded the Armenian FM that the principles confirmed by the Helsinki Final Act of 1975 are closely interlinked with each other and that these principles have to be applied altogether.

The document notes the obligation that a state must avoid using force or threatening with use of force against the territorial integrity and political sovereignty of another state, according to Hajiyev.

The document also reaffirms the principles of inviolability of borders and territorial integrity of States and the inadmissibility of occupation of territories by force, the spokesperson added.

“Also, States have the obligation that the situation resulting from use of force against the territorial integrity and political sovereignty of a state is not to be accepted as legal. People’s right to self-determination cannot be interpreted as a case legalizing the carrying out of an action against the territorial integrity and political independence of a state,” Hajiyev stressed.

Referring to Article #8 of the Helsinki Act “the participating States will respect the equal rights of peoples and their right to self-determination, acting at all times in conformity with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and with the relevant norms of international law, including those relating to territorial integrity of States,” Hajiyev said Armenia abuses the principle of self-determination to cover up the results of the occupation of Azerbaijani territories and ethnic cleansing carried out there.

Though the Armenian FM had favorable opportunities for recognizing in the UN Human Rights Council the acts of genocide committed against the Azerbaijani people in Khojaly and other occupied territories of the country, crimes against humanity and war crimes and admitting the deplorable human rights situation in Armenia and the events of 3 March 2008 in Yerevan, he didn’t take advantage of all this, the spokesperson concluded.
