Azerbaijani deputy arrested in Russia
Akif Sayadov is convicted of funding global terrorism
Akif Sayadov, Deputy of the State Council of the Republic of Komi, has been arrested.

The Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Komi issued a statement in this regard, Russian Press Services report.

The Komi Parliament said arrests of this kind shouldn’t be a surprise as local deputies do not have immunity.

Akif Sayadov is convicted of economic crimes and funding global terrorism. The All-Russian Azerbaijanis Congress’ Komi Department rejected the charges as absurd.

Note that, Akif Sayadov, 63, is Director General of the Ukhta State Geological Company for Oil and Gas Exploration OJSC. He was born in Julfa District of Nakhchivan AR, Azerbaijan. In 1974, he graduated Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemistry (Azerbaijan State Oil Academy) as chemical technologist. In 1990, A.Sayadov was invited to Komi to work as head of the production-procurement office of the Ukhta State Geological Company for Oil and Gas Exploration OJSC. In March 2006, he was appointed director general then executive director of Intaneft CSC. In January-May of 2008, he returned again to the Ukhta State Geological Company for Oil and Gas Exploration OJSC after working as director of business development at the Geotex Management holding. In March 2011, he was elected Deputy of the State Council of the Republic of Komi. Akif Sayadov is a member of the ruling fraction “United Russia.
