Snake undergoes C-section in Australia to remove ... a teddy bear
A hungry python has undergone emergency surgery after it swallowed a dog`s teddy bear.
The pet`s family called Tony Harrison, a snake catcher, after the reptile slithered into their Gold Coast home. When he arrived, they told him they had seen it devour their dog`s toy.

Mr Harrison then took the reptile to the veterinary clinic, where an X-ray showed an intact bear inside the creature`s belly.

An X-ray shows the teddy bear in the python.

"They [the family] watched the snake eat the dog’s toy," Mr Harrison told Daily Mail Australia.

"I’ve seen them (snakes) eat tea towels, plastic bags and fake chook eggs, if it smells good they’ll eat anything."

Vets performed an emergency C-section on the snake and removed the cuddly teddy.

Dr Matt Hollindale admitted it was the first time he had operated on a snake in his 16-year career.

"We try and go in there and make as little damage as possible basically, so basically she`s a normal snake again," he told 7 News, after leaving the snake with 15 stitches.

Kylie Barba, the practice manager at The Vet Lounge, said the actions of the family and snake catcher had definitely saved the life of the serpent, which has since been called Lucky.

Gold Coast snake catcher Tony Harrison handles the python that swallowed the teddy bear.

"If the people who found the snake didn’t tell Tony they saw him eat the teddy bear the snake would have most definitely died," she told the Daily Mail.

"Tony would have taken the snake and relocated it because it just looks like a big rat and wouldn’t have rung any alarm bells so the general public wouldn’t have had any idea that the teddy bear inside him wasn’t going to digest."

As for the teddy, it has now been washed multipe times and was being returned to the dog.

Australia has seen a rise in snake attacks this year after experiencing a hotter summer than usual.

Last month, a mother saved her son after waking up to find a python biting his face in bed.
