"There were three explosions, one of them brought a few casualties. The blast happened at the front gate of the airport, not inside the airport," Dhuh told Xinhua.
He said security operation has been launched to ensure that all passengers who are safe.
Ilyas Sheikh, one the witnesses at the scene told Xinhua a car carrying a printer with a bomb hidden inside blew up at the entrance when security personnel inspected it.
"I have counted four people who were injured after the explosion. The car was carrying a printer in which we have learnt had a bomb implanted," Sheikh said.
There was no clear information about the identities of those who were injured.
The explosion follows another airport incident carried out by Somali-based militant group Al-Shabaab in Mogadishu last month when an explosion happened inside a Daallo airline flight bound for Djibouti.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the Beledweyne explosion.
