"We will act as Slovenia and Croatia do. Since this midnight, our government has begun implementing the solutions applied by other countries. This means that our border with Macedonia and Bulgaria in terms of migrants is working in accordance with the rules that have been established in Croatia and Slovenia," Vulin told reporters.
The Serbian minister added that the government would humanely treat the refugees already in Serbia but it would prevent illegal migrants from entering the country.
The decisions follow Monday`s EU-Turkey summit that resulted in an agreement putting an end to the Balkan route used by migrants to travel through Greece and Macedonia to wealthier EU states.
Europe has been beset by a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa. The EU border agency Frontex detected over 1.83 million illegal border crossings in 2015.
