Former President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers said the diversification of energy resources is of great importance, noting that it is essential to construct oil and gas pipelines to Europe from different directions.
Besides oil and gas, it is necessary to use solar, wind and other alternative energy sources, according to the former president.
“Sometimes, it is said that solar, wind energy is more expansive than oil and gas. There is a need for new technologies to find alternative energy sources,” he added.
Zatlers said now the oil prices are lowering which is good for oil-consuming countries, however, the interests of oil-producing countries must be taken into account. “A balance of the prices is needed,” he said.
Former Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković, speaking at the panel discussion, said that the oil prices have to be balanced for both oil-consuming and oil-producing countries.
Obiageli Ezekwesili, former Federal Minister of Education of Nigeria, underlined the importance of the development of alternative and renewable energy sources.
