Police officer wounded during Trump rally in Chicago - VIDEO
A police officer was wounded during protests at a Donald Trump rally that ended up being cancelled on Friday evening.
The cop, who hasn`t been named, appears in a video walking in his uniform with blood on his head and face.

Jeff Orr, a resident who took the video, says the clip was shot at the intersection of Van Buren Street and Racine Avenue, two blocks away from the UIC Pavilion where Trump`s rally was scheduled to take place.

`There was a mix of Trump supporters and protesters so I don`t know what happened,` Orr told NBC Chicago. `It was a very tense situation that indicative of the tension in America right now.`

The crowd gathered at the intersection because there was a police line, Orr added.

Chaos erupted after Trump cancelled his rally on Friday due to clashes between supporters and protesters. Police blocked the streets and struggled to maintain order.

Two police officers were wounded during the protests on Friday evening, the Chicago Police Department said.

One of them was hit on the head with a bottle and needs stitches according to CBS 2 editor Greg Kelly. Police didn`t confirm whether this officer is the one in Orr`s video.

Both cops had non life-threatening injuries.

`It is unfortunate that parties on both sides allowed their political views to become confrontational, and that`s unfortunately resulted in that scuffling and the arrests that were made,` interim Chicago Police superintendent John Escalante said during a press conference on Friday evening.

`We were confident that we had the right security for the event and the protesters as well.`

Five people have been arrested according to the Chicago Police Department. CBS News reporter Sopan Deb is among those who were detained according to DNA Info.
