SOCAR intends to purchase 3 bcm of gas, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said March 14.
“As you know, SOCAR needs gas to pump in layers during the gas extraction. The more gas is pumped in layers, the more stable will we be able to keep the oil production. Moreover, our gas storehouses are large and we plan to pump additional gas in them. As you know, capacity of our storehouses makes 5 bcm. We intend to purchase 3 bcm. SOCAR sent its bids to Gazprom. At the same time, SOCAR is negotiating with Iranian side on swap operation. In summer, Iran does not consume much gas. Peak of the consumption is in winter. We are conducting negotiations for pumping of Iranian gas in SOCAR’s storehouses. In winter, we’ll supply gas to Iran’s northern regions. We are working on different versions”, Abdullayev said.
