Azerbaijani FM meets with Chinese counterpart
Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov on Monday met with Foreign Minister of the People
The Chinese FM praised the development of relations between the two countries.

Congratulating his counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov for the signing of the memorandum granting Azerbaijan the status of dialogue partner in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Wang Yi said that China welcomes this memorandum.

Elmar Mammadyarov, in his turn, noted the similarity of the positions of Azerbaijan and China in relation to global problems, underlining that both countries support the territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of internationally recognized borders of each other.

Mammadyarov added that this position is also reflected in the joint declaration on further development and enhancement of friendly relations and cooperation between Azerbaijan and China which was signed between the presidents of both countries in Beijing.

The Azerbaijani FM highlighted the significant role of the joint intergovernmental commission in terms of developing economic ties.

Azerbaijan supports the Silk Road Economic Belt project, initiated by China, Mammadyarov said, adding that the country is an important part of the East-West and North-South corridors.

The FM also said that the transit potential of Azerbaijan will expand after the launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.

Thoroughly informing his counterpart about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, Mammadyarov said the conflict is a major threat to peace and stability in the region.

China attaches great importance to the development of transportation corridors and is ready to expand the cooperation with Azerbaijan in this and many other spheres, Wang Yi said, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the two countries within international organizations.

The sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and global issues of mutual interest.
