He made the remarks at a press conference following the fifth meeting of Turkey-Azerbaijan High Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Ankara March 15.
President Aliyev said he believes that TANAP will be launched in two years.
The head of state noted Turkey’s importance in the expansion of intercultural dialogue.
An event on intercivilizational dialogue will be held in Baku in April on the initiative of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he added.
President Aliyev said Azerbaijan and Turkey are in a joint struggle against Islamophobia that is prevailing in several countries.
The head of state accused some media outlets of conducting different campaigns to discredit Islam and equate Islam with terrorism, which can lead to an intercivilizational problem.
With regard to the ongoing refugee problem, Aliyev said Turkey hosts the largest number of refugees, spending a lot of money. “Azerbaijan knows how difficult this issue is, because in 1990 we faced grave humanitarian consequences of the Armenian occupation,” he added.
According to Aliyev, refugees are facing abuse in Europe. “And where are universal values, human rights and democracy? Once again, I would like to thank the leadership of Turkey on behalf of the Azerbaijani people as it assumed the heavy burden of refugees. Turkey has demonstrated to the world how to overcome refugee crisis”, he underlined.
