Mammadov said that the negotiations of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev with EU leaders at important conferences, forums, as well as the recent visits by EU leaders in Azerbaijan and talks with them demonstrates the dynamic development of relations: "Azerbaijan has taken its place in world processes since the first years of independence. Azerbaijan has set a goal to develop own statehood on the basis of closer cooperation with Europe and successfully moving in this direction. The position of official Baku is that the relationship must be fair and equitable, must be built on mutual respect and understanding. Otherwise, this cooperation can not be a successful and long-term. In recent years, there is mutual understanding between Azerbaijan and the EU in this area. In recent years as the result of this process, at least Member States to `Eastern Partnership` has chosen their independent way.
Since Azerbaijan has stepped to protect its interests and achieved it, the work on the document on development of specific partnership and cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU continues. I think that after a certain time it will be implemented and will ensure the future of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU. I have no doubt about it. Recently, the EU Commissioner for External Relations and Energy Affairs visited our country and presented their position on the substance of the relationship. Not only words and declarations, but also the act on the Southern Gas Corridor confirms it".
Mammadov said that there have been some problems in the relations between Azerbaijan and the West, today all the problems are already at the stage of elimination.
