EU may be granted mandate to negotiate with Azerbaijan on strategic partnership
The European Union may be granted a mandate in May-June to conduct negotiations with Azerbaijan on a strategic partnership agreement, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev told reporters on Thursday.
The EU consists of 28 countries, so the process does not last for a day or a month, the deputy FM said, noting that in this respect, meetings and agreements between the EU member states are needed.

According to the information available to us, such meetings are being held and there is no negative attitude yet, Mammadguliyev added, not ruling out the upcoming EU’s fact-finding visits and video debates.

According to him, the Azerbaijani side has previously responded to a number of questions of the EU. “Azerbaijan is ready to discuss all subjects. The document we presented includes all these subjects. If any EU member proposes additional subject to be envisaged in the document, we are ready for it. For this, we should be given a mandate to start official negotiations,” he underlined.

Mammadguliyev stressed that the document also reflects the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which is a very important issue for Azerbaijan. “Simply, the negotiations will define in what format the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be envisaged in the document,” he said.
