Azerbaijani navy, air forces holding large-scale drills
The naval and air forces of Azerbaijan are carrying out joint large-scale operational and tactical drills, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said Nov. 13.

The ministry said the drills are taking place under the leadership of the Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov and First Deputy Minister, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Colonel-General Najmaddin Sadikhov.

All personnel of the navy, units and formations of the air forces and air defense forces, as well as the units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the State Border Service are taking part in the drills.

The ministry also said the drills involve 5,000 personnel, 40 warships and boats, 58 artillery and rocket launchers, up to 20 aircraft and helicopters of the air forces, 50 air defense systems, as well as special forces.

The drills will be held in three phases.

Live firing will be carried out during the active phase of the drills, which will last until Nov. 17.
