Belgian officials have called for three days of national mourning after the deadly terrorist attacks in Brussels took the lives of at least 34 people and wounded nearly 200 others.

The overall number of injured in the Brussels terror attacks has reached 150 people.

The number of injuried following Tuesday`s attacks in Brussels stands at 150, Le Soir reported.

A total of 73 people were injured in the metro attack, ten of whom are currently in critical condition, while 81 people sustained injuries in the airport blasts, according to the local newspaper.

At least 34 people were killed in terrorist attacks in Brussels — 20 in its metro and 14 at the city`s airport.

16:02 Associated Press reports that the explosions at the Brussels airport and subway killed at least 28 people.

“A spokesman for the Brussels Metro said 15 people were killed and 55 injured in an explosion on a train, and Belgian media reported at least 13 dead in two explosions at the airport, with many others injured,” AP has said.

Belgium raised its terror alert to the highest level, diverting planes and trains and ordering people to stay where they were.

Belgian intelligence had advance knowledge of plans to carry out terrorist attacks in the country but was unaware of their time or location, the French BFMTV reported Tuesday, citing police sources.

Reportedly, the station is located near the European quarter.

Sky News has also said that there were fresh reports of an explosion at Maalbeek metro station in the city.

Sky News reports that the blasts centred on an American Airlines desk in a departure hall.




11:46 The explosion rocked the check-in zone of Brussels Airport, killing “several” people and leaving multiple others wounded, NBC News has reported citing officials.

The blast shook the departures hall shortly after 08:00 local time, according to the report.

“There was an explosion … there are several dead and wounded but we can`t say how many at this point," a federal police spokesman said.

A security source told NBC News the explosion happened near check-in desk four but it was not immediately clear if terrorism was involved.



Several people were injured at the departure hall of the Brussels airport, said Sputnik International.
