The Chinese Embassy in Liberia said on November 16 that 160 Chinese health-care workers have arrived to staff a $41 million Ebola treatment unit in the country hardest-hit in an outbreak that has killed more than 5,100 people this year.
It said many of the doctors, epidemiologists and nurses who will work at the facility previously helped tackle the SARS epidemic in Asia.
Meanwhile, the Russian military said the first of two transport planes carrying the components of a field hospital had left for Guinea on November 16.
A Defense Ministry spokesman said that 200 people with highly dangerous infections could be treated and kept separately from one another at the facility.
