Iran, Russia against Western intervention in internal affairs
Russia and Iran oppose the intervention of a number of Western countries in the internal affairs of other states, State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin said after a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, the chairman of parliament Ali Larijani, RIA Novosti reported.

“We oppose the policies of a number of Western countries, which are the cause of crises in different parts of the globe, we are in favor of respect for international law in relations between states and the inadmissibility of interference in the internal affairs of other countries," Naryshkin told reporters Nov.17.

He also said that Iran and Russia have the same position with regard to sanctions.

"We consider the so-called sanctions as nothing more than a tool of outright economic and political pressure, a tool that has nothing to do with either international law or the rules of the WTO," said Naryshkin.

He also said that the speakers of the parliaments of Russia and Iran have discussed the possibility of participation of Iranian parliamentarians as observers in the work of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.

"Realizing that Iran and Russia and some other countries in the region are confronted with such challenges as the threat of drugs, terrorism and international crime, today we have discussed the possibility of participation of the Iranian parliament as observers in the activity of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly," he said.

"We believe that such participation in the activity of the CSTO PA from Iran will bring even more efficiency in the promotion of regional stability and security to the activity of this organization," said Naryshkin.

He invited Larijani to come to Russia on a return visit.
