Trial of Azerbaijani hostages is illegal - Supreme Court head
The `trial` arranged by the separatist regime of Nagorno Karabakh of Azerbaijani hostages Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, is illegal and unjustified, the chairman of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan Ramiz Rzayev told reporters Nov.19.

He said that the Azerbaijanis, taken hostage by the Armenians in Kelbajar, did not commit any crime.

He said that Azerbaijan is trying to solve this problem diplomatically.
"If in future any decision is taken in this regard, we will have the right to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights and solve this issue at the international level," said Rzayev.

Previously, Armenian media reported that the Armenian forces, during an operation in the occupied Kalbajar region`s Shaplar village on July 11, killed an Azerbaijani - Hasan Hasanov, and detained two other Azerbaijanis - Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov.
A `criminal case` was filed against them.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council`s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
