Armenia continued actions contrary to spirit of Nowruz holiday - MFA
Armenia’s Defense Ministry continued to take actions in contrast to the spirit of Novruz and Easter holidays, Hikmat Hajiyev, spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, told on March 28.

“Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk, personal representative of the country chairing the OSCE (Germany) and Minsk Group co-chairs made statements on March 18 and March 21 calling to adhere to the ceasefire during Novruz and Easter holidays,” said Hajiyev.

He added that in accordance with the spirit of the holidays, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry immediately responded positively to Kasprzyk’s call.

However, Armenia’s Defense Ministry displayed a provocative stance in contrast to the spirit of this call and the representatives of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry made contradictory statements distorting the essence of the negotiation process, the spokesperson said.

“Moreover, Armenia continued the activities aimed at deliberately escalating the situation on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops and the Armenian-Azerbaijani border by intensively violating the ceasefire with heavy weapons,” Hajiyev added.

According to the spokesperson, the recent provocative actions of the Armenian side took place on March 27, resulting in the death of one officer and one soldier of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Hajiyev said.

All this once again proves that the true goal of Armenia is deliberately aggravating the situation, preventing a negotiated settlement of the conflict, maintaining the status quo and continuing the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, the spokesman underlined.

Hajiyev said the presence of Armenian armed forces in the occupied Azerbaijani territories is the main threat to peace and security in the region and main reason for the tension and ceasefire violation.

In order to achieve progress in resolving the conflict and ensure lasting ceasefire, Armenia, in compliance with the UN Security Council resolutions, should withdraw its troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, he stressed.

Otherwise, the responsibility for this situation lies on Armenia, the spokesperson concluded.
