Egypt interested in developing ties with Azerbaijan in tourism
Egypt is interested in developing ties with Azerbaijan in the tourism sector, said Mohamed Abdel-Gabbar, head of the international tourism sector of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism.
He made the remarks at a meeting with a group of Azerbaijani journalists in Cairo March 29.

Abdel-Gabbar said the launch of direct air flights between Baku and Sharm El Sheikh or Cairo would be a positive step in terms of developing ties between the two countries in tourism.

The number of Azerbaijanis traveling to Egypt is not so high, Abdel-Gabbar said, noting the importance of holding discussions in this respect.

He noted that around 3.5 million Russians travel to Egypt every year, but the number of Azerbaijani tourists is very low.

The lack of direct air flights between Egypt and Azerbaijan is a major obstacle to the development of bilateral ties in the tourism sector, according to Abdel-Gabbar.

“Our relations with countries such as Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan broke down long time ago and we would like to be interested in the markets of these countries. For example, direct air flights between Kazakhstan and Egypt have been recently launched. We would like to practice it with Azerbaijan as well,” he added.

Abdel-Gabbar said a delegation led by Egyptian tourism minister is expected to visit Azerbaijan in the near future. “The Egyptian tourism minister’s visit to Azerbaijan scheduled for December 2015 was postponed. However, this visit will take place and the Egyptian delegation also includes representatives of tourism and aviation companies,” he concluded.
