To achieve progress in negotiations, the sides should cease fire - Warlick
In order to achieve progress in the negotiations and avoid further causalities, Armenia and Azerbaijan should immediately cease fire, the US co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, James Warlick, told reporters in Baku April 6.
“Today we met with the Azerbaijani president, as well as defense and foreign ministers, expressing our condolences over the deaths of soldiers and civilians,” Warlick said.

The diplomat said that during the meetings, the sides highlighted the importance of resumption of negotiations and a lasting solution to the conflict.

The co-chairs welcome the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents’ statements on readiness for ceasefire and hope this will reduce tensions along the contact line, Warlick added.

It will be impossible to hold peace talks without adhering to the ceasefire, he stressed.

Warlick said that the US supports the Minsk Group and wants the conflict to be settled peacefully. “Some US high-ranking officials also called for the restoration of the ceasefire,” he noted.

The recent tensions showed that it is time to continue negotiations to achieve a lasting peace, the US co-chair said, calling on both countries’ leaders to demonstrate political will.
