Russia interested in construction of Rasht-Astara railway
According to him, the main issue of discussion is about creating a railway link.
“On April 20, Iran and Azerbaijan will discuss the construction of the 8-km long Astara-Astara railway bridge. We think this project will have realized by the end of this year,” the minister added.
Mammadyarov said another topic of discussion is the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway line. “Russia too is interested in it and has proposed that the meeting should take place in Moscow,” he stressed.
“We also discussed the legal status of the Caspian Sea. Two days ago, Baku hosted the meeting of the working group. The adoption of a convention on the Caspian legal status will open up opportunities for peace, security and cooperation,” he said.
The minister added that the main purpose of the meeting was a discussion of the North-South Corridor.
“This corridor with Russia had existed in the 19th century. Since the conflict with Armenia began, this corridor has not been in use. We think the use of this corridor is important for all the three countries,” Mammadyarov said.
