“The embassy is aware of a general but uncorroborated threat against the Marriott hotel in Islamabad. US citizens are advised to avoid the area for the next several days to allow time to assess the situation,” the statement posted on the embassy’s website on Saturday said.
The latest attack by Islamist extremists last month targeted Christian families who were celebrating Easter at a public park in the city of Lahore. Jamaat-ur-Ahrar, a breakaway faction of the Taliban militant group in Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the bombing that killed more over 70 people.
