PACE President urges to respect ceasefire in Karabakh - LIVE
President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Pedro Agramunt called for de-escalation of violence in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Opening the spring session of PACE, Agramunt deplored violence on the line of contact and urged the parties to respect the ceasefire.

The head of PACE mentioned that although the Council of Europe has no direct mandate to be involved in the Karabakh conflict, he believes the parliamentary diplomacy may help.

He urged to build bridges to install confidence and trust for meaningful discussion for the settlement of the conflict.

PACE President reiterated his support “for territorial integrity” and called for “international law to be implemented”.

Lamenting the loss of human life from the violence that had broken out at the beginning of the month in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, the Pace President said that “although the Council of Europe has no direct mandate in the settlement of the conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, I believe that parliamentary diplomacy may help bring positions closer. As elected representatives, we cannot afford not to talk to each other. We must build bridges and help restore confidence and trust, which is essential for any meaningful discussion about the settlement of conflicts. I shall continue to keep this issue high on my agenda.”
