Talks with Azerbaijani, Armenian delegations to continue
Talks with Azerbaijani and Armenian delegations to the PACE will continue in order to reduce the tensions between the sides, PACE President Pedro Agramunt said on Friday.
Numerous debates on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and other frozen conflicts in Europe were held within the spring session, he said, noting that in fact, these conflicts are not frozen.

The latest escalation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone showed that this conflict may quickly develop into an all-out war, which we cannot accept, the PACE president noted.

“Our job as parliamentarians is to make sure the sides do not allow such tensions, to have them continue negotiations and help build mutual trust, and, if necessary, help the parties sit at the negotiating table,” Agramunt added. “I had separate meetings this week with the heads of the Azerbaijani and Armenian delegations. I called on the sides to reduce the tensions and avoid the severe rhetoric that has anyway been added to the tensions in recent years.”

He said that although positions between the sides are quite different we should still not give up our efforts. “The only tool in this respect is dialogue. I will continue talks with the heads of both countries’ delegations. I hope to be able to reduce the tensions between the sides,” the PACE president stressed.
