Azerbaijan begins monitoring beaches
Azerbaijan
The monitoring will last till October, the head of the Sanitary Department of the Republic Hygiene and Epidemiology Center Ziyaddin Kazimov told APA on Tuesday, May 10, 2016

During the monitoring, chemical, bacteriological, radiological and toxicological laboratory analyses of sea water samples will be carried out. The laboratory analyses will define whether or not the beaches are suitable for use.

According to the last year’s laboratory analyses, the quality of sea water on beaches in Mardakan, Shuvelan, Novkhani, Buzovna, Zagulba, Pirshagi, Bilgah, Nardaran, Turkan and Hovsan meets all standards. Bacteriological pollution was observes on Sahil and Shikh beaches of Garadagh and Sabail districts, as well as on beaches in Sumgayit. Taking into account the serious threat to public health and the risk of spread of infectious diseases among the population, these beaches were declared unfit for swimming.
