The Kremlin said Tuesday in a statement that Putin and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi had a phone conversation upon the latter’s request.
The statement said that two presidents discussed measures aimed at improving the security at Egyptian airports that would result in resuming direct Russian flights to Egypt.
Russia decided to suspend all flight to Egypt in November 2015, days after a plane with 224 people on board, mostly Russians, crashed shortly after taking off from the Red Sea’s resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
Russia’s decision came after indications that Daesh had downed the plane, placing a bomb on the board.
The Kremlin also said that the two presidents discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, namely the situation in Syria and in Libya.
