The former president of Turkey, Suleyman Demirel was taken to a hospital due to a respiratory disease, the Kanal7 TV channel reported Dec. 5.

Reportedly, there is no danger to Demirel’s life at present, but his diabetes hinders the treatment.

Suleyman Demirel was born on Nov. 1, 1924 in the province of Isparta. He is considered one of the most influential politicians in the history of Turkey.

In 1990-1993, Demirel served as the prime minister of Turkey, and in 1993-2000 he was the country’s president.
