"The shift on duty at the Crises Management Center of the Emergencies Ministry Office for the Republic of Dagestan has received a message from the Dagestani branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Geophysical Service a magnitude 4.9 seismic event has occurred at a depth of 61 kilometers on the border between Dagestan and Chechnya," the website said.
"There have been no messages from the population about destruction or casualties. According to preliminary estimates, the seismic event caused no casualties or destruction," the Emergencies Ministry said.
According to local media, the earth tremors were felt in three Dagestani cities: Kizilyurt, Makhachkala and Kaspiisk.
