The ministry stated that Armenia’s leadership has officially confirmed that the Armenian armed forces resorted to armed provocation against Azerbaijan in early April, as a result of which the situation on the contact line has changed.
The Defense Ministry noted that during the counteroffensive, the Azerbaijani armed forces liberated several strategic heights in Aghdere district (former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Republic), as well as in Fuzuli and Jabrayil districts.
“The Armenian side made official statement that as if they lost 800 hectares of land, but the figure was deliberately decreased. In fact, the Azerbaijani armed forces have liberated 2,000 hectares of land from occupants and much more area is under Azerbaijan’s control,” the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry stressed.
The ministry added that unlike the Armenian side, the Azerbaijani armed forces avoid any steps that may re-escalate the situation on the contact line of troops and only takes adequate retaliatory actions.
