"This morning I informed the Prime Minister that the recent developments in his activities, and in view of the lack of trust in them, I resigned from the government and the Knesset and taking a break from political life," Yaalon tweeted.
He later added that he would give a media statement at 12:00 p.m. local time (09:00 GMT).
Yaalon and Netanyahu have sparred in recent weeks over the use of deadly force on neutralized Palestinian assailants.
On Thursday, Yaalon said that Israel`s "moral compass for basic questions has been lost," in what has been described as a thinly-veiled jab at Netanyahu`s right-wing policies.
