He made the remarks during the 44th session of the Council of Ministers of the Organization for Cooperation of Railways in Baku.
Given that the two countries are neighbors, it is necessary to ensure all types of transportation between them, said the minister.
"I hope we will start the construction the next year," said Sokolov.
Azerbaijan will finance the bridge`s construction, while Russia will in the future compensate for 50 percent of the expenditures on the carried out work.

Construction of a motorway bridge across the Samukh River on the Azerbaijani-Russian border will start in 2017, Russia`s Transportation Minister Maksim Sokolov told reporters June 9.
