`Metsamor poses threat to the whole Europe` - European MP
The European Commission should deeply investigate the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant in Armenia. Each of the NPP has its expire date, Ramona Nicole Mănescu, the member of the Group of the European People`s Party (Christian Democrats) told, AzVision.az reports.

`New and reliable technology should be developed for the NPPs. The European Commission should deeply investigate the Armenian NPP and we must be sure whether the Metsamor NPP meets the modern standards. Actually, I am in doubt. The reason is that the maximum operation life of NPPs is 25-40 years. After 40 years, such kind of NPPs should be shut down and a new one must be established. I think that relevant and strict steps should be taken on the issue at the level of EC.`, Mănescu said.

`The NPP poses threat not only to the region, but also to the whole Europe`, she stressed.

It contaminates the environment and water and cause serious damage to flora and fauna. Furthermore, the Armenian side dumped the nuclear wastes of NPP into the drinking water resources of Azerbaijan. Besides, the Metsamor NPP is located in seismic zone. The Armenian authority which tries to protect its outdated power plant, should concern about the Armenian people`, she added.
