Fifty people were killed and 53 wounded in shooting at the crowded Pulse gay nightclub in the heart of Orlando, Florida, June 12. The gunman, Omar Mateen, a New York-born Florida resident and US citizen who was the son of Afghan immigrants, was shot and killed by police who stormed the club with armored cars after a three-hour siege. This became the deadliest mass shooting in US history.
