Baku correctly chosen as F1 venue - Alonso
Fernando Alonso, two-time winner of the Formula One World Championship, and a McLaren Honda team driver, is fully convinced that Baku has been correctly chosen as a venue for the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe.
"We completely rely on FIA [Fédération Internationale de l`Automobile] in terms of the places and the venues we race," Alonso, who is also European Grand Prix ambassador, said at a press-conference in Baku June 16. "I totally put my trust, my confidence on the federation and on the decision that they made."

"If we are racing here, it is because everything was good to them, and therefore is good for us," Alonso added.

"We are promoting the sport around the world," Alonso said. "We are also promoting the values of the sport around the world and that will be always welcoming in any country."

The 2016 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe will be held in Baku June 17-19. Eleven teams will take part in the racing: Mercedes AMG Petronas, Scuderia Ferrari, Williams Martini Racing, Red Bull Racing, Sahara Force India, Haas F1 Team, McLaren Honda, Toro Rosso, Sauber F1 Team, Renault Sport F1 and Manor Racing.
