Azerbaijani MP raises issue on closure of Metsamor NPP at PACE
Making speech at the free debates held within the framework of the PACE summer session, Vusal Huseynov, deputy chairman of the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE, brought the attention of parliamentarians to the issue of Armenian Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant`s (NPP) closure, AzVision.az reports.

V.Huseynov stressed that one of the most dangerous NPP was built with the world`s oldest nuclear technology and poses threat to the thousands of lives.

`The relevant issue has been raised several times at the different bodies of the PACE. Unfortunately, no any result has been achieved. Such an ignorance against the humanity and nature will result in a calamity`, he added.

`In April this year, Georgian government detained two people with Armenian origin who are attempting to smuggling and sell of $200 million worth of radioactive materials`, he added. Huseynov also reminded Armenian deputy`s and former Prime Minister`s threats on the possession of nuclear weapons in the country.

He also highlighted the use of white phosphorus bullets against Azerbaijani civilians and civil possessions by the Armenian Armed Forces, speaking of the April clashes on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The Metsamor nuclear power plant which was built with the oldest technology is located in a seismically active zone and it is dangerous not only for Armenians but also all countries in the region. The European Union called Armenia to close the power plant several times.

Member of Parliament called the European Union Parliamentary Assembly to make an attempt on the closure of the outdated Metsamor NPP in order to prevent possible disaster and ensure human rights and safety.
