Constant attention needed for conflict resolution - Estonian MP
Taavi R
The Estonian PM answered the questions from assembly members.

Ganira Pashayeva, member of the Azerbaijani Delegation, asked a question in relation to protracted conflicts: “The Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Transnistria conflicts have remained unresolved for many years. One of the main reasons for this is that relevant decisions of international organizations haven’t been fulfilled yet. The decisions passed by the UN Security Council and PACE remain on paper. What should be done, which mechanisms should be used for their implementation? Will Estonia keep the settlement of conflicts under attention during its chairmanship?”

Estonian PM Rõivas, in turn, emphasized the need to pay constant attention to conflicts and continue making efforts to settle them. “We have already discussed this matter. If we have adopted any resolution or reach any agreement, we now have to begin to work on them. I’m sure there is no miraculous solution to these conflicts for the time being. We just need to abide by the agreements we reached in the past, and I think it is the best option for now. It’s an approach that is useful for the matter. Each of us would want all the conflicts settled, and I believe one of the things parliamentarians can do is to keep such issues on the agenda and work on them until they are settled, because parliamentarians in fact have the power of influence, and you, MPs from all the countries represented here, can make best use of it,” he replied.
