Thirteen of the killed are foreigners.
Turkish, Saudi Arabian, Iraqi, Tunisian, Uzbek, Iranian, Jordanian and Ukrainian citizens are among the killed.
Currently, 239 people who were injured as a result of the terrorist attack are receiving treatment in Turkish hospitals.
The “Islamic State” (IS, aka ISIS, ISIL or Daesh) terrorist group stands behind the terrorist attack, according to the preliminary data.

The death toll from Istanbul airport attack has risen to 41, while the injured toll stands at 239, according to Istanbul`s governor`s office.

According to the governor`s office, ten foreigners and three persons of dual nationality were among the victims of the terrorist attack.
Thirty seven victims have already been identified, the Turkish authorities said.

Gunshots, screams and explosions pierced the air Tuesday as three terrorists armed with bombs and guns killed at least 36 people at Istanbul Ataturk Airport in Turkey.
At least 36 people were killed, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said. An additional 147 people were wounded, Turkey`s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

A gun and bomb attack on Istanbul`s Ataturk international airport has killed 36 people and injured about 90.
Three attackers opened fire near an entry point to the terminal and blew themselves up after police fired at them, officials say.
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said early signs suggested the so-called Islamic State was behind the attack.
Recent bombings in Turkey have been linked to either IS or Kurdish separatists.
Tuesday`s attack looks like a major co-ordinated assault, says the BBC`s Mark Lowen.
Ataturk airport was long seen as a vulnerable target, our Turkey correspondent adds, reporting from a plane stuck on the tarmac in Istanbul.
There are X-ray scanners at the entrance to the terminal but security checks for cars are limited.
Footage shows passengers taking cover inside the airport
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the attack should serve as a turning point in the global fight against militant groups.
"The bombs that exploded in Istanbul today could have gone off at any airport in any city around the world," he said.
The US called the attack "heinous", and said saying America remained "steadfast in our support for Turkey".
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said: "We grieve for the victims. We stand by Turkey".

At least two explosions have been reported at Istanbul`s Ataturk Airport. Authorities now confirm 28 people are dead and around 60 are injured.
At least 28 people have been killed and 60 wounded in a terror attack on Istanbul Ataturk Airport in Turkey, Istanbul Gov. Vasip Sahin said early Wednesday. Three bombers were also killed, the governor said. Another report, from semi-official news agency Anadolu, said six of the wounded are in critical condition. A total of 49 ambulances were sent to the site.There has been no immediate claim of responsibility.
Journalists say from the airport that "Police are not letting anyone in ... Hundreds of people are flooding away from airport... People are trying to get away. They`re not saying much -- just the look on their face is enough, shock, some of them bleeding..."
"People are walking away bleeding, with bandages on their head."
Traveler Laurence Cameron described what he saw after he stepped off a plane: "It was just a massive crowd of screaming people. Some were falling over themselves. A poor chap in a wheelchair was just left, and everyone just rushed to the back of the building, and then people ran the other way and no one really seemed to know what was going on," he told CNN. "Where you normally hail a taxi, that is where the attack happened. The ground is just kind of shredded. There is bloodstains on the floor as well."
Turkey`s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag earlier said one terrorist "first opened fire with a Kalashnikov then detonated himself." In total three bombs exploded, the governor said.
A video posted to Twitter shows a view from a camera inside an airport terminal. A few dozen people are walking around when a bright flash and fireball erupt in the background.
A Turkish official told that police fired shots at suspects near the international terminal in an effort to neutralize them.
Videos posted on social media show travelers sitting on the airport floor. A man shouts, "Get down! Get down!" Someone cries as a gunshot rings out.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Prime Minister Binali Yildirim and the Chair of the Joint Chiefs, General Hulusi Akar, at the presidential palace upon receiving news of the explosions in Istanbul, the office of the president announced.
The President`s office says that Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, Deputy PM Numan Kurtulmus, Transportation Minister Ahmet Arslan and Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Betul Sayan will travel to Istanbul from Ankara, the Turkish capital.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, referencing the attack in Istanbul, told an audience at the Aspen Ideas Festival on Tuesday, "We are still collecting information and trying to ascertain what happened and who did it."
Ataturk Airport is "one of the most secure airports in the world, but the airport has been very overwhelmed for several decades with terrorism from PKK.
The Ataturk airport is closed until Wednesday at 8 p.m. local time (noon ET), according to airport spokesman Erhan Ustundag. Incoming flights were diverted to Izmir, Ankara and other cities.
Embassies in Ankara is sending consular officers to the airport to account for any potential victims. But there are no indications of any American casualties at this point.
The attacks happened on a warm summer night at the airport, east of Istanbul, that is the 11th busiest in the world in terms of passenger traffic. It`s Europe`s third busiest airport. Almost 62 million passengers passed through last year. There are two main passenger terminals.The airport is roughly 15 miles from the city.

The blasts occurred in the airport`s International Arrivals Terminal.
A Turkish official confirmed to Media that two explosions have hit the airport. According to Turkish media, the blasts were terrorist attacks targeting two separate locations in the airport.

Gunfire was heard from the car park near the airport, CNN Turk reports, citing the witnesses. Four armed men were reportedly seen running away from the terminal building after the explosions, according to Turkey`s NTV channel.
