Azerbaijan-related issue to be discussed at French parliament
The issue of establishing a special investigative committee for the study of bilateral political, economic and diplomatic bilateral relations between France and Azerbaijan will be tabled on June 28 at the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly.
This initiative has been made by members of France`s centrist UDI (Union of Democrats and Independents) group, especially Francois Rochbluan, known for his pro-Armenian position, as well as Thierry Benoit, Charles de Courson and other parliamentarians, said a message posted on the French National Assembly’s website.

Head of the France-Karabakh Friendship Circle Francois Rochbluan said that France shouldn’t encourage warring parties with its diplomatic, economic and military activity.

He noted that due to the poor human rights situation in Azerbaijan he put forward such an initiative because he was concerned by a number of French politicians and MPs having close ties with Azerbaijan and their policy of influence.

Jean-Francois Mancel, a member of the French National Assembly and President of the Association of Friends of Azerbaijan in France, in his turn accused Rochbluan of retaliating against Azerbaijan.

“For example, I don’t even suggest creation of a special investigative group on the Armenian diaspora’s election blackmail against the UDI group,” he said.

Note that a number of French MPs as well as Azerbaijan’s embassy in France stood against this initiative for fear that the discussion of such an issue at the French parliament would seriously spoil bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and France, an OSCE Minsk Group co-chair country involved in the settlement process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
