Azerbaijani diplomat presents credentials to UN secretary general
Azerbaijani diplomat Agshin Mehdiyev, new Permanent Observer of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to the United Nations, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said the UN website.
The decision to appoint the Azerbaijani diplomat to this position was earlier made by the OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani.

Mehdiyev has served as OIC permanent observer to the European Union since Dec.1, 2015.

His candidacy to the vacant position of the OIC permanent observer was earlier proposed by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, Mehdiyev served as Azerbaijan’s permanent representative to the Council of Europe (2001-2006) and the UN (2006-2014).
