Iraq’s President Fuad Masum on Friday sent a letter to Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.

President Fuad Masum asked President Ilham Aliyev to provide support for the inclusion of a number of monuments, which are located on the territory of Iraq and belong to the Mesopotamian civilization, in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The letter notes that the Iraqi government has appealed to UNESCO for the inclusion of seven archeological sites located in the country in the list of World Heritage Site.

It is said that the inclusion of these monuments in the appropriate list will be voted at the 40th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in the Turkish city of Istanbul on July 10-20, 2016.
