National Security Ministry conducts operation to prevent illegal weapon acquisition and drug smuggling from Iran
As a result of search operations carried out by the Ministry of National Security, a group of persons suspected of illegally acquiring, storing, transporting, and carrying fire-arms, parts of them, and ammunition and smuggling drugs from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan have been detained.
As a result of complex operations, citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Mehdiyev Aftandil Aghadadash oglu, Mehdiyev Zaur Aghadadash oglu, Mirzayev Rauf Nijat oglu and Hasanov Namiq Mammad oglu – were caught red-handed, the ministry’s public relations department told.

During the inspection of their houses, 2 Makarov pistols, 33 cartridges, 2 pistol trunks, 1 Nagant revolver and 5 cartridges for it, as well as 2.5 kilograms of gold, 641 grams of jewelries made of silver and other precious metals, large amounts of narcotics – heroin, opium dried marijuana and diazepam which is considered to be psychotropic substance – were found and seized.

The Main Investigation Department of the National Security Ministry launched criminal cases on all facts under articles #206.3.2 (smuggling of narcotics by group of persons by prior collusion, #234.4.1 and 234.4.3 (manufacture, acquisition, storage, shipment, or sale for the illicit manufacture and processing of drugs by prior collusion) and 228.2.1 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation and carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies, explosives) of the Criminal Code.
