EU Parliament to vote against Turkey visa-free regime
European lawmakers will vote in September against providing visa-free travel to Turkey in response to Ankara’s crackdown following a failed coup, a source in the European Parliament said.
Earlier the European Parliament foreign affairs committee has held emergency talks over the failed coup in Turkey, amid concerns that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan`s reaction to the event in the past days will stall negotiations over Turkey`s EU accession.

"There is very high probability the European Parliament will vote against granting Turkey a visa-free regime," Sputnik cited the source as saying.

Brussels and individual member states’ leaders urged Turkey to adhere to the rule of law and human rights in clamping down on suspected traitors after the July 16 attempted insurrection.

Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos, said that Turkey still needs to fulfill the 72 requirements listed in the Roadmap, which are organised in five thematic groups: document security; migration management; public order and security; fundamental rights and readmission of irregular migrants.
