Putin not to attend Olympics Opening Ceremony in Rio de Janeiro
The Russian President Vladimir Putin is not going to attend the Olympics Opening Ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
However, Peskov declined to answer whether the President will visit any competition in the framework of the Olympics. “I can’t say yet; I don’t know what decision the President will make,” he said, Interfax reports.

Earlier, Peskov noted that Kremlin welcomed the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) not to boot out the Russian athletes from Olympics. According to him, Kremlin confirms that Russia is ready to cooperate with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and other sport organizations to settle the situation with the doping scandal.

On June 23, IOC made a decision not to disqualify the entire Russian Olympic team, explaining that the final decision on the participation of a specific athlete in the Games will be made by relevant international sport federations.
