Brazil sends army, arrests at least 51 people amid unrest
The Brazilian government authorized deployment of army units and arrested at least 51 people amid recent attacks on buses and public property in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, local media reported on Monday.
The deployment was requested by state governor Robinson Faria in a bid to boost security in the state as local police registered over 50 vandalism attacks, including bus arson and shooting in public places on Friday, Agencia Brasil said.

The wave of unrest is believed to be a response of criminal gangs to the use of mobile phone jammers at Parnamirim prison preventing criminal kingpins from giving orders to their subordinates from behind bars, the agency added, citing Faria.
