No information about meeting of Azerbaijani, Armenian FMs – MFA
There is no information about the meeting of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Armenia’s Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian, Hikmat Hajiyev, spokesman of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, told Trend Aug. 2.

Earlier, in his interview with Armenian media, the member of the US House of Representatives Jim Costa said that a meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian FMs is scheduled for August with the participation of Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault and the US Secretary of State John Kerry.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
